Our Story
Our church has an amazing story. And we’ve been entrusted with a remarkable ministry in our community.
A couple years ago, in 2002, we had the 50th anniversary of the Eugene Foursquare Church. I invited all the past pastors to come be part of a time when we could gather together and be thankful to God for all the things He had committed to the congregation, and all the good things He had done for our church.
It was also a time in which we could be thankful to all the men and women who had laid down their lives – some of them literally laying our church's foundation stones – to help make Eugene Faith Center into what is has become. Walter Huss, who founded the church in 1952, was able to be here. He was astounded to look around and see all that had taken place in the last 50 years.
In 1969, Roy Hicks, Jr. came to pastor the church. He later joked that, as a 25-year old, he quickly whittled the church of 100 down to 50. But new people started coming. The ‘70s became an incredible era for the ministry of the church. Many people from all walks of life came to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and have their lives changed.
In 1972, the growing congregation purchased what had been the Seventh Day Adventist Academy on 13th and Polk streets. It became our new home. We met in the gym, had a few classrooms and some offices. We’ve been here ever since. We feel that the Lord has a place for us, not only as a church, but as a neighbor in the heart of our city.
The ministry that has been entrusted to our congregation is really a remarkable one. Over the last half-century, literally thousands of people have made decisions to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior, been baptized and had their lives changed.
Eugene Faith Center has been a place where people could get instruction, experience healing and take part in the community life the Lord has intended for His people. Children and grandchildren have been raised in a healthy and empowering environment. Families have been nurtured in goodness and in strength. Some 59 new congregations have been birthed out of our church, and scores of Christian leaders have been raised up and sent out, not only across the U.S. but internationally as well.
Throughout it all, the Lord as blessed us to be a strong presence here in Lane County and to be a consistent and honest witness to our area.
Our calling is to not just maintain our ministry, but take the talents that have been entrusted to us and maximize them for the profit of God’s kingdom. We appreciate the solid foundations the Lord has given us, and are excited about the life of His Spirit that we will continue to experience and share as we are in community with each other.
And we invite you to share with us in that life.
